Gameplay Matters Most :
It’s not unlike me to flip through old gaming magazines strictly for the nostalgia. Yesterday was no different when I picked up an issue of Tips and Tricks published back in 2000. If you do the math, that’s a decade ago. The more things change the more they stay the same unfortunately.

There was one particular article written by Ara Shirinian that compared the graphics of Dead or Alive 2 on Dreamcast and Playstation 2. The article was written to illustrate how minute details in graphics really wouldn’t matter in the future because eventually graphics would be so advanced that gameplay would take precedence. When Ara ended the article by saying, “If one year and 100 MHz (among many other improvements) gives us graphics enhancements this minute, developers may have to actually focus on gameplay and interaction to grab our attention,” it really grabbed my attention. No pun intended. It also, got me thinking about Bayonetta on PS3.

Ju-On: The Grudge Review:
All most all gamers want to get into video game journalism for one reason: to review games. While I sure as hell shall not complain about being in it (free games + being paid to be a nerd = win), I have to set the record straight. There are times when we feel pain and anguish for accepting this badge of honor. There are video games out there that are BAD! I mean, really bad. Putrid even! Playing these games is torture. Enter Ju-On: The Grudge.

Playing Bayonetta on PS3 makes me wanna say…

When someone asks what I’m doing while Bayonetta is loading I reply…

When multi-console owners were asked would they be getting Bayonetta on PS3 they had this to say…

The Air I Breathe

•December 19, 2009 • Leave a Comment

It’s so weird and fascinating how the lives of strangers can be connected. If I hadn’t taken it upon myself to check out some of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s other movies after loving Southland Tales and Veronika Decides To Die, I know I would have missed out on this great movie. Maybe I am the one who gets to start to ‘word of mouth’ on this one. Makes me wonder how many other movies are out there waiting to be discovered since we live in a world so focused on the right now. The Air I Breathe is amazing. So amazing it got me to finally post a new movie blog. I have to tell you Forest Whitaker is such an underrated actor. I hope he knows his body of work is something he can be proud of.

Last weekend my Uncle Nate died. His funeral was Saturday. That meant I was going to have to do some traveling. Getting away from Texas was exactly what I needed. I could’ve do with out the strange hotel, but it was nice hanging with my cousins.
I had no idea so many people were going to show up at my uncle’s funeral. Then again he was at one time in the army and he was the pastor of “our” family church. (I live out of state and don’t even go to church. So yeah.) It was kind of cool seeing the military there doing what they do. It really is like it is in the movies. My brother was acting silly the whole time. lol
Anyway since my uncle was being buried in the same cemetary where my mother was buried I decided to pay her a visit. It’s not like I can see her grave anytime I want considering she’s buried out of state. Honestly I never even got a chance to see her tomb stone until now because it wasn’t ready the day of her funeral. I am going to have to get some money and buy her a new head stone. Growing up, getting used to death and heartache was a bitch. I’ve lost a lot of people over the years and it all started with my mom. In some ways visting her was therapeutic. It was like this weight was lifted. I think I finally forgave her for not being the mother of the year and myself for being such a douchey dick growing up. For good or bad I couldn’t miss my chance to ’see’ her. It really sucks that no one told me they fucked up and spelled her name wrong. Even worse that most of my distant relatives don’t even know who I am. Hell they didn’t even know my brother and I are brothers. WTF? They know we are Pendletons, but they didn’t know we had the same mother. These are my mom’s brothers and sisters I’m talking here. -.-’ I mean come on!

Anyway, I have to get ready so I can go home. I miss my bed. Summer Slam tonight!! Batman AA Tuesday!! My birthday Thursday!! This week looks very promising.

BlazBlue: The Truth As Told By Me

•July 7, 2009 • Leave a Comment

I have the PS3 version. Now let’s get to the good stuff.

So I got the BlazBlue Limited Edition (free upgrade) last week and after sometime with it I have to say it’s definitely the best fighting game of this generation. SFIV is still fun and addicting, but BlazBlue takes the crown for sure. Visually nothing compares to it especially in 1080p. It’s like anime in motion. There are a ton of unlockables, a really deep fighting system and the characters are really diverse. The story mode reminds me of Melty Blood (visual novel) and I like that!^-^
Some of the features right out of the gate are 6 player lobbies, player matches, ranked matches, disconnect percentages (unfortunately there are rage quitters attached to this game as well) and the ability to download, record and watch matches. I hope Capcom has taken note of this, I love that you get trophies for doing just about anything you’d normally do anyway. The trophies are very practical and attainable. There are a lot of hidden trophies. When you combine all of this with the fact that the game is extremely fun to play you get unrivaled replay value. This game is quite challenging, but immediately accessible. I really hated Marvel vs Capcom 2 because of how easy and cheap the game was. While it’s the highlight of the versus series it’s also the game that took most of the skill and chess match aspects from the game. I like that Blazblue has really improved upon what Arc System Works started with in the Guilty Gear series. Some little things I like about the game are:

-It’s the best looking 2D fighting game in history.

-You can adjust the screen size horizontally and vertically at the same time. I also think this shifts it between 1080i and 720p.

-If you don’t play online for a reasonable amount of time you run the risk of getting demoted. So if you are ranked really high you still have to play to keep that rank.

-Score Attack mode is very challenging. No easy cheap tactics will work in this mode. So if you get a really high score it’s because you really have some skills mang.

-No Lag! I repeat there is no lag in this game when playing online. For the douche out there yes at the very beginning BEFORE the match starts there is sometimes a little lag due to syncronizing, but it’s finishes before the match starts so to me that doesn’t count. This is probably the best feature in the game after the gamplay of course.

-Limited Edition content. 2 Disc limited edition soundtrack and a blu-ray disc with a very detailed VIDEO tutorial for each character that includes the basics, strategy and combos. There are some other goodies on the disc as well, but I’ll let you find out for yourself. The fact that the limited edition is selling for the standard $60 price tag is really awesome. I hope everyone understands this truly is a limited edition. Ebay sales for the game are going to be similar to the old MvC2 prices I bet. lol

-My favorite character is V-13. You can unlock alt. versions of the characters just like in the GG series.

Sunshine Cleaning

Going in I knew nothing about this movie, but I haven’t been watching that many movies lately so I gave this one shot. I was definitely surprised at how much I enjoyed it and just how much of the subject matter I could relate to. I won’t give away any of the plot points, but there is sunshine at the end metaphorically speaking of course.
